I received a Ph.D. in New Testament from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1985.

From 1984 through 2011 I taught at Northern Seminary in Lombard, IL.

​

From 2011 through 2021, I was Professor of Early Christian Literature

at Garrett Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL (on the campus of Northwestern University).

​

I am currently Emeritus Professor of Early Christian Literature at Garrett.
